Here it is, another day of sharing the appreciation, friendship, love and respect gained in fandom. Enjoy your day, friends, and know that somewhere out there in LJLand, somebody loves you!

The deadline for our annual Valentine Exchange is rapidly approaching. You'll have until midnight on Thursday, February 11th, to get your list o'love for your fellow fen in to me. I'm not real fussy about deadlines, though, so if you lose track of time and do it on Friday, that's all good, too.

C'mon and give your friends a little Valentine treat that'll leave 'em smiling for days!

It's once again time for the annual [livejournal.com profile] muncle MFU Valentine Exchange!

What is the MFU Valentine Exchange? It’s an opportunity to share the love, joy and appreciation you have for other fans and make their Valentine’s Day just a bit happier and brighter.

This is not about creating fiction or art, but a quick and easy way to give a nod to another fan, to say “I think you’re amazing” or “Thank you for the stories” or “sending hugs your way”.

The rules?
1. Make a list of people in your MFU fannish circle that you want to send a valentine to. They don't have to be on LJ but if they are, please include their LJ name. Listing names alphabetically would be helpful. Tumblr users, please feel free to link to this post and spread the word in that platform. I know there are a lot of MFU fans over there. (Yeah, I have a tumblr account but STILL cannot figure out how to use tumblr.)

2. Come up with a word or phrase for each valentine gift. As a child I used to carefully select those candy hearts to send certain sentiments to specific recipients – this is totally the same sort of thing. It can be a single word 'Awesome!'. It can be a short phrase saying why you like or admire that person (frex: 'I love your stories' or 'you are one of the kindest people I know'). It can be something silly like 'hats off to you' with a picture of a ridiculous hat. Send 'hugs' to someone who is going through a difficult period in their life.

3. Once you have completed your list of valentines, send the list to vysila AT Comcast DOT net, or send it to vysila via LJ private message. I will need your lists no later than midnight on Monday, February 11th.

4. I will then compile a master list of all valentines. If someone gets multiple valentines, each one will be listed individually. The master list will be posted to muncle on Valentine's Day. Cross links will be posted to other MFU communities on LJ as well. Tumblr users are welcome to link to the Valetine’s Day List o’ Love as well.

5. The master list will be posted anonymously – that is, no recipient will know who said nice things about them. I know this bothers some people, but this is the heart of the exchange. There is no expectation of reciprocity, no thank-you's to be tendered. The whole point of the exchange is to make others feel good – about themselves, about participating in fandom – with no strings attached. Let others know they are noticed and appreciated, as individuals and/or as fans. The movie brought in new fans - let's not forget to tell them how glad we are they are here with us!

Curious about how it turned out last time? Check out this page.

I do hope you want to participate – it’s a lot of fun! (And you also get a sweet treat, custom-made just for you!)

Just a reminder that the deadline for joining in the Valentine Exchange on [livejournal.com profile] muncle is midnight this coming Wednesday, February 11. The early deadline is to allow me some time to get the final post prepared.

Those who participated in 2013 will tell you it's very easy to do - and the rewards are definitely feel good on both sides, for those who receive a valentine from an anonymous friend and those who send the valentines. It's win-win all around. We already have over 100 valentines waiting to be distributed, but there's plenty of room for more!

The rules? Hardly any.
1. Make up a list of UP TO 14 names on your LJ friends list and send that list of names to me. I would like to stress that if you have a short list of 3 names, or a slightly longer list of 17 names, that's all fine. The 14 name list is pretty arbitrary on my part, chosen because Valentine's Day is on the 14th.

2. For each name, offer up a sentiment to express: "You are a wonderful person", "You make me happy", "I love your stories", "I miss you!", "Funniest person on earth" - things like that. Just something you like about that person. Offer "hugs" to someone who is going through a rough time.

3. Although I say LJ, the list need not be limited to just LJ users. If you have friends on tumblr or some other platform, feel free to include them in your list.

4. Send your list to me. You can send it to vysila via the LiveJournal private messaging feature or email it to me at vysila AT comcast DOT net. I will put the list together in a single post which will appear on [livejournal.com profile] muncle on February 14th.

5. The valentine wishes are anonymous. There are no thank-yous to tender, no obligation to reciprocate. The point is simply to make others feel good about themselves and/or their participation in fandom. The reward for those who send the valentine wishes is that they made some friends happy.

Everyone who participates gets a warm fuzzy feeling and a surprise treat!

So please go ahead and make a friend's day. :)

Fan Friends, guess what? It’s once again time for the [livejournal.com profile] muncle MFU Valentine Exchange! I missed doing it last year and figured we could at least make it a bi-annual event.

Another reminder that the [livejournal.com profile] mfu_gallery Valentine's Day Artist Trading Card Event is drawing near... no pun intended, honestly.  You can find the original post regarding the how and why of it HERE.  Remember, this is not a challenge, it's just a fun opportunity to express yourself, whether it be original art or the time honored cut and paste method, as in this example.

P.S. Feel free to right-click on your personalized candy hearts and do a 'save as' to your hard drive. They are convenient icon-sized treats from [livejournal.com profile] muncle to you!

Also, please forgive any typographical errors. And I really really hope I did not inadvertently leave anyone's valentine out. Old eyes are, well, old eyes. ;)

Just a reminder that if you want to send valentines to fellow MFU fans, the deadline for submitting your list is midnight Tuesday, February 12th.

Send your list to [livejournal.com profile] vysila either by LJ private message or to vysila AT comcast DOT net.

We already have about 100 valentines in the mailbox, waiting to be delivered to more than 50 people.

Hello, MFU community!

I was super-touched by [livejournal.com profile] spikesgirl58's sponsoring the "hats off to vysila" day a few weeks back and thought Valentine's Day would be the perfect day to extend that kind of joy and appreciation to other fans. Wouldn't it be nice to send valentines to other fans just to make their day (or week, or month) a little bit brighter? Or just make everybody smile and laugh?

This isn't about producing fiction or art; it's just a quick and easy way to give a nod to another fan, to say 'thank you for your stories' or 'I think you're amazing' or 'sending lots of hugs your way'. How about if we let our fellow fans know that they are noticed and appreciated every day, even though we don't often express those sentiments?

Heck, maybe you want to say 'thank you' to someone involved with the production of your favorite television show or ask Napoleon or Illya to 'be mine'.

So, here are the rules for the MFU Valentine Exchange:

1. Choose up to 14 people you want to send a valentine to. For this first go-round I'd like to limit the recipients to those fans in the MFU community. They don't have to be on LJ but if they are, please include their LJ name. Listing them alphabetically would be helpful.

It can be something silly like 'hats off to vysila' with a picture of a ridiculous hat. Send 'hugs' to someone who is going through a difficult period in their life.

3. Once you have compiled your list of valentines, send the list to vysila AT Comcast DOT net, or send it to [livejournal.com profile] vysila via LJ private message. I will need your lists no later than midnight on February 12th.

4. I will then compile a master list of all valentines. If someone gets multiple valentines, each one will be listed individually. The master list will be posted to [livejournal.com profile] muncle on Valentine's Day. A link will be cross-posted to [livejournal.com profile] mfu_canteen as well.

Let's let others know they are noticed and appreciated, as individuals and/or as fans.

I do hope you want to participate!

Caveat: this is not an original idea of mine. I saw a reference to something called "The Valentine's Day Game" which was sponsored for some years by [livejournal.com profile] svmadelyn and that made me think about that glorious 'hats off to vysila' (which made me feel like a million dollars) and adapting that feel-good idea to our MFU fandom in a more general way.
