Post-new LJ TOS,we ran into a small glitch when it came time to backup the LJ community known as muncle. The owner of the comm had created a placeholder community here on Dreamwidth (no content) but was the only admin here. A new community had to be created in order to import the 16 years worth of muncle content over, so now we're at [community profile] muncle211.

Come on in, pull up a chair, switch your Special over to the mercy setting and let's chat about all things UNCLE: the actors, the characters, vodka, the organization, the cold war and all sorts of related stuff. Don't forget we love all kinds of creative efforts like fic, manips, art and vids!

[community profile] muncle211 is primarily a slash community for both the TV series and the 2015 movie, but we're also open to gen and other pairings.

The movie kinkmeme posted here has over 300 posts on it and I see that on AO3 there are already 60+ stories tagged as The Man from UNCLE (2015). Most of the fan reviews I've seen have been on the positive side, with some absolutely glowing.

Kind of reminds me of launches of some big fandoms, like The Phantom Menace, or Stargate: Atlantis, or Sherlock BBC (I swear folks were poised over their keyboards in breathless anticipation of a new fandom to love)- although on a smaller scale. Still, I'm pleased to see new life being breathed into our fandom and hope that we'll all have fun with renewed energy, regardless of which version speaks to the muse.

And I just wanted to emphasize that [livejournal.com profile] muncle will be open to creative works featuring either our original and beloved TV 'verse or the new movie 'verse.

I'm glad to see everyone excited for the exchange again this year. I had hoped to make a sign-up post today for DTCA9, but unfortunately there's a delay. The plan for this year is to host DTCA through AO3 as the archive has a built-in story exchange module. Unfortunately, the module is involve and doesn't appear to offer guidance. I'm waiting to hear back from the site admin for some direction (lest I pull out what little hair I still have *g*). I'll post with instructions just as soon as I'm clear on the entire process. Thanks for bearing with me, everyone.

As many members no doubt are aware, Dreamwidth is the newest journaling game in town, scripted with LJ open-source code by fans for use by fandom (and others). Given that [livejournal.com profile] muncle has needed a reliable back-up, I have created a [livejournal.com profile] muncle community on DW:

http://muncle.dreamwidth.org/

No doubt there are questions regarding [livejournal.com profile] muncle's role on DW, so I'll say right off the bat that there are no plans to move [livejournal.com profile] muncle from LJ to DW permanently. The DW community is a placeholder and back-up. Rumor has it that when DW goes live on April 30th, a cross-posting feature will be available, allowing posts from DW to cross-post to LJ, and vice versa. If said rumor comes to fruition, I will set up the communities for cross-posting so that [livejournal.com profile] muncle is always up, always available, and art and stories are as safe as they can be. I'll update both communities as progress is made.

Please feel free to post questions, intros, and/or pretty spies.

Shortly after [livejournal.com profile] muncle was created in 2002, unscrupulous spammers discovered how easy it was to hack communities and spam every post, and sometimes members' own LJs, with advertisements. At the time, I made the choice to limit community commenting strictly to members only. It was something I really didn't want to do with so many MFU fen not on LJ, but I felt it was a choice in the best interest of the community members. The comment limitation was later changed to be LJ-users-only a couple of years later when LJ increased their security measures.

Today, I removed the commenting limitations completely. So long as [livejournal.com profile] muncle remains spam-free and troll-free, the community will remain as such, and hopefully this will encourage comments from list-serve-only fen who come to visit our slashy corner of the fandom to feel free to leave feedback and see how easy LJ can be.

I've been catching up the community memories with all the lovely fic that's been posted in the past month. Let me know if I've missed yours and I'll correct that error.

Thanks very much to those who responded to Challenge 55: Justifiable Pride. That challenge is now closed (belatedly) and Challenge 56 will be posted later today.

Also, welcome to our new members! It looks like we are enjoying an influx of fans who are discovering the joy and fun of our favorite spies. The more the merrier, right?

LJ has a feed for the latest images posted publicly here: http://www.livejournal.com/stats/latest-img.bml

Someone has set up a community with an automatic script to scrape off any image that is posted publicly that meets LJ icon requirements and post them to that community ([livejournal.com profile] iconscraper). The posts in the community hotlink the original source of the images.

However, you can opt out your journal, and prevent images you post publicly in your journal from being included in [livejournal.com profile] iconscraper and similar scripts that are scraping from the latest-img LJ feature. All you have to do is opt out of the latest-img thing.

Make sure you're logged into LJ as your journal. Go to the Admin Console at http://www.livejournal.com/admin/console/ and input set latest_optout yes and click on the execute button.

I have opted out for [livejournal.com profile] muncle, so images you post to this community will not be hotlinked. Please know that you can post images here safely.

If you are also a community maintainer, I strongly suggest you do the same to protect the members of your communities. To protect a community, go to the admin console link above and type set for communityname latest_optout yes and click on the execute button. If you maintain more than one community, you will need to do this for each community, replacing communityname each time.

I believe all relevant posts have been added to the community's Memories now. If anyone has posted something that that they believe should be added to the community's memories and it is not there, please comment below, along with a link to the relevant post.

Thanks, everyone, for your patience.

I'm very happy to announce that [livejournal.com profile] irene_heron and [livejournal.com profile] hdshroom have both agreed to co-maintain with me here at [livejournal.com profile] muncle. Yay! They have both been with [livejournal.com profile] muncle since it's creation a few years ago, and they are long-time MFU fen and slashers. Please join me in thanking them for their assistance with [livejournal.com profile] muncle. Thank you, ladies!

As [livejournal.com profile] muncle grows and more new and young fen find the fandom on the 'net, we plan to keep the community an active, slashy place to enjoy MFU. Thank you to everyone who has helped to keep it so.

Howdy, folks! Back after a recent absence. I apologize that things fell behind in the bookmarking, tagging and misc. housework department on [livejournal.com profile] muncle, but I'll be working to get things all squared away over the next week. If you posted something to the community that you think should be added to the community memories and you don't find it there by next weekend, please drop a comment here and I'll get it fixed. Thanks!

I think we all burned out just a bit given those writing challenges over the holiday. After two months of recovery, [livejournal.com profile] muncle will resume theme challenges as of today. I'll be posting Challenge 49 post haste. Theme 50 is just around the corner and it would be fun if we could do something special for it. If you have any ideas on how we might celebrate the big 5-0 on [livejournal.com profile] muncle, please leave a comment below, k? I'm going to screen comments to this post to keep the juicy ideas a surprise. *g*

Challenge 49 comin' right up.
