These names won't be familiar to a lot of people, but Denetia Arellanes, a MFU writer/editor passed the week before Christmas. She put out one of the first MFU slash zines (back when you had to print stories on colored paper so people wouldn't 'accidently' read them and faint). She did Tales of Two UNCLEs and really contributed a lot to fandom in the 80's and 90's. She was a good friend of mine, but we drifted apart when she left MFU for Blake's 7.

Also Paulie Gilmore, an extraordinary MFU writer/artist/editor is back in the hospital with cancer. As a fandom, we are getting smaller and smaller. Give a first cousin a little love today. There aren't many of us left.

I never met Denetia, but I've certainly seen some of her work. But I thought the colored paper was an attempt to keep people from xeroxing the zines. I may be thinking of another publisher, though.

We are losing a lot of the women who started it all, who stepped up to the plate when it was often a dangerous thing to do. It's such a shame, and really depressing.

Oh, how sad! It's hard to see so many falling now.

I have come across Tale of Two UNCLES but never knew the person you mention. I'm sorry for the loss of your one-time close friend. It's a shame when people drift apart upon moving on in fandom.

*Hugs*

I was saddened to see this post, I didn't know about Denetia... wow, we are indeed on the wane. Hugs to you and to all the first cousins! Try to stay healthy kids!
